Brewin Dolphin Edinburgh completes virtual challenge for charity

When the Edinburgh marathon was cancelled this year due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the team at wealth manager Brewin Dolphin’s Edinburgh office didn’t want their training to go to waste or to miss the opportunity of raising money for the office’s chosen charities, and so they decided to run or walk the equivalent in miles of the north coast of Scotland for their virtual ‘north coast 500’ challenge.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, employees couldn’t undertake the challenge in groups and so they individually logged their daily exercise walks and runs in order to complete the challenge. Collectively they covered, on foot, the equivalent distance of the north coast 500 route, around the top of Scotland, over nine days, starting from and finishing at the Edinburgh office. The team observed the Scottish government’s Covid-19 restrictions whilst undertaking the virtual challenge. The total amount raised so far is £2,950, which will be split between the office’s two chosen charities, the Edinburgh Foodbank and Scottish Action for Mental Health.

Lynne Lamont, head of charities, Brewin Dolphin Scotland, who took part in the challenge, said: “It was a real team effort with 66 people involved from both the investment team and business support, and helped by the sensational Scottish weather over the bank holiday weekend, meant that we met our target by day four. The bar was raised, and we kept going, walking or running the equivalent miles as from Scotland to Rome, we even took on the extra challenge of climbing the equivalent height of Mont Blanc.”
