Brewin Dolphin won three prestigious awards at the City of London Wealth Management Awards (COLWMA) last night (4th March). The ceremony, which was held at The Guildhall in London, saw the wealth management company win Best Discretionary Wealth Management Company of the Year, Best Initiatives in Diversity and chief executive David Nicol won the Lifetime Achievement award.
One of the highlights of the night was the Lifetime Achievement award for Brewin Dolphin’s chief executive, David Nicol, who will retire from the post in June of this year. Mr Nicol’s achievements span more than 30 years in financial services. He began his career as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young before working at KPMG’s Hong Kong division for two years. He then joined Morgan Stanley, where he worked for 26 years in a number of operations and finance roles. In March 2012, he joined Brewin Dolphin’s board as a non-executive director before being appointed to the role of chief executive in 2013.
David Nicol, chief executive, Brewin Dolphin said: “It was an honour to be presented with the Lifetime Achievement award. I have been fortunate over the years to work with some amazing people at some terrific organisations.”

Among the other accolades for Brewin Dolphin was the Best Discretionary Wealth Management Company of the Year, which is recognition of the company’s excellent financial advice for clients and its bespoke investments, and the Best Initiatives in Diversity award highlighting the strides the company has made to enhance its diversity and inclusion. Collecting that award on the night was Caroline Lake, Brewin Dolphin’s head of diversity and inclusion.
COLWMA was established to recognise those wealth management companies displaying high levels of service and quality in the industry.
